Waterfront Scenic Walkway

Pile Driving, Boardwalk, Lighting

Fall River, MA

Project Highlights

To enhance the waterfront along the Taunton River, the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation was looking to create a scenic pedestrian link between Battleship Cove and Bicentennial Park. The project consisted of more than a mile of heavy timber boardwalks and walkways, including a 150’ long pier with a viewing platform. Over 200 wood piles were driven along the existing waterfront to create the foundation for more than a thousand feet of boardwalk. Railings, benches, and lighting were added to adorn the wooden walkways.

Before installing the concrete walkway, P. Gioioso replaced approximately 700’ of granite block bulkhead below, along with another 200 cy of concrete retaining walls. A portion of Bicentennial Park was rehabilitated with gravel walks then it was loamed and seeded. A continuous concrete walkway was constructed between Battleship Cove and Bicentennial Park. This included the grading, forming, placement and finishing of over 1000 cy of concrete walkways, drainage improvements, and the installation of around 2000’ of ornamental railings and a new lighting system. Each day now local residents enjoy the riverfront using this beautiful walkway.
