The project replaced existing water transmission main gate valves, vaults, and piping, with resilient seated gate valves and steel pipe. Construction involved the temporary support of excavation system coffer dam and the demolition and subsequent restoration of an existing Flood Control Wall. The project included the removal of three existing 24-inch gate valves and one 24-inch gate valves and structures; installation of two 30-inch resilient seated gate valves, and one 24-inch resilient seated gate valve with associated manholes; removal and replacement of 24-inch, 30-inch, 32-inch, 42-inch, and 48-inch water transmission pipe and appurtenances; reconnection of local water distribution pipe; and surface restoration. The purpose of the project was to replace the old infrastructure because it was not working properly, and the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission could not shut off the water mains in emergency cases.
