New Bedford North Terminal Rail Yard

Project Manager: Joseph Gioioso
Engineer: STV, Inc.
Client: City of New Bedford, Massachusetts
Construction Cost: $5,929,000
Construction Schedule: April 2004 - September 2005

This project was originally established as a way to help the city of New Bedford subsidize the costs of its harbor cleanup. By revitalizing the old terminal, the city was able to move contaminated dredge material to its proper disposal point in bulk. It consisted of the clean up and capping of a 32-acre railyard site that contained high levels of contamination. The old railyard was disassembled and environmental barriers were put into place. Over 100,000 cy of fill was moved and spread to provide a base for a new 6 track railyard and interconnecting lines.
