Why Work for Gioioso

SafetySafety is the number one priority at Gioioso. Our safety team engages with workers to create safe work environments and provides regular training throughout the year. Employees have access to management all the way up to the owners to voice suggestions and concerns. Safety is our most important focus—if it takes longer to keep things safe, so be it.

Consistent Work — Construction can make for uncertain paychecks—we attempt to minimize that disruption, working to keep our staff on the job and paid. While we can’t guarantee, we have a strong history of keeping our workers who want to work year-round on the payroll for all four seasons.

Certifications and Training — In addition to safety training, employees are encouraged to keep up their certifications, and that training is covered by the company. Employees can also apply to the company for additional training.

Courtesy — When work needs to go beyond the usual day to ensure the job site is safe for traffic or if work needs to be done late at night or early to minimize community and traffic disruption, we give the team as much notice as possible. We know our employees have other obligations and family and friends who count on them.

TESTIMONIALS

I use the low bed truck, a 10 wheel or an 18-wheel tri axle trailer, to move large equipment—the big excavators and dump trailers. And for the past four and a half years I put fuel in all the trucks. I run the fuel side of the company. I grab 2500-2700 gallons. When we get low, I call for more. If I don’t show up, they don’t work.

I like the freedom here. If the job’s getting done, they know you’re working. You do your job; you have the freedom to do it.

P. Gioioso had a very good reputation—very specialized. The best pipeline company. Bridges—that came later. I knew that they were the best. They had a reputation that people work hard but they take care of their people. I appreciate that. I was looking for a company where I could work hard and stay a long time. I knew people stayed 20 years. If they can stay that long, so can I. I found a home here. Before I knew it, it’s been 33 years.

Agnelo Bairos, Fuel Truck Driver

I’m on the job site every day, running day-to-day ops. We get a plan set and have to build that—provide the layout, do the survey, where catch basin goes, the walls etc. I manage the crews, order materials, and work directly with the client. I was looking for a job where I could be outdoors and not behind a desk 40 hours per week.

If I need anything, like a different machine, I pick up the phone and call one of the owners. The owners will get you what you need to get the job done.

The culture?

It’s good. We have a lot of good people working for us.  You’re retaining employees. At Gioioso you see a lot of people who stick around. Everyone’s working together and wants the job to come out smoothly. Everyone is friendly and gets along.

Alex Candiloro, Superintendent

I update the company’s internal equipment tracking systems, organize upcoming bid folders, do submittals and document control for certificates of compliance as well as asphalt escalation slips and log the field team’s hours. Twice a week I worked on site assisting the superintendents on one of our projects. There I used our GPS system to track key locations of pipe installations. They trusted me to sign off with the subcontractors.

I learned more from the Cambridge project superintendent than I did in the classroom. Everyone was very welcoming from the get-go. It’s a very informal, family-based company. I can ask anyone in the office a question and they’ll take the time to explain it to me. I never felt I couldn’t ask a question.

I know our work has a long-term effect—getting people water in this entire block. There’s something really satisfying about it.

Dhara Constance, Assistant Project Manager

Dhara joined the firm as an intern. Now that she’s graduated from Wentworth, she joined the company full time.
